Govt Grants For EV Charging

The UK Government, through its Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), offers several key schemes to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles by supporting the installation of charging infrastructure for both residential and commercial properties. For residents, particularly those in flats or rental accommodation who do not have a driveway, the EV chargepoint grant provides funding of up to 75% of the cost to buy and install a charging socket, capped at £350. This grant is designed to overcome the barrier of not having private off-street parking. For businesses, the support is more extensive. The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) offers a voucher-based grant that provides up to £350 per socket for up to 40 sockets, encouraging companies to provide charging for their staff and fleet vehicles. Building on this, the EV infrastructure grant for staff and fleets is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, providing up to £15,000 per site to help cover the cost of installing the wider infrastructure needed for multiple chargepoints, such as wiring and posts. This grant covers up to £500 per parking space that is prepared for charging, plus up to £350 for each chargepoint installed. For larger-scale commercial operations, particularly those with depots for vans and HGVs, the government has also introduced a Depot Charging Scheme, offering significant funding to help with the high cost of installing robust charging infrastructure at commercial depots.
